Laundry Love Coffeyville Receives Basic Human Needs Grant
Laundry Love Coffeyville is excited to share some good news with our community. We have been awarded a Basic Human Needs Grant from the Community Foundation of Southeast Kansas (CFSEK). This support comes at an important time and allows us to continue offering free washing and drying services twice a month at Mkoehn Beech Street Laundry.
The grant arrived just as our funds reached zero, ensuring families who depend on Laundry Love can keep meeting a basic need without added financial stress. We provide free washing and drying only; Laundry Love donates detergent nationally, and dryer sheets come from generous local donors.
Co‑owner Marilyn Koehn contributes to the welcoming environment at Beech Street by providing snacks and, at times, a meal for patrons during Laundry Love sessions. Her hospitality has become a familiar and appreciated part of the experience, reinforcing the sense of community the program strives to foster.
Since the beginning of the year, Laundry Love has served 335 families, supported 827 individuals, and washed and dried 738 loads of laundry. Facilitator Sharon Brown, who also co‑owns ABC Christian Child Care Center—one of only two facilities in Kansas licensed to provide true 24‑hour childcare—shared her gratitude:
“This grant arrived at just the right time, allowing us to continue serving families in Coffeyville who depend on Laundry Love to meet their needs. Each month, families share how much Laundry Love means to them, and we are grateful for the opportunity to continue providing this service for our community.”
Based on past participation, the grant is expected to sustain the program for approximately three months. To keep Laundry Love going beyond that, we rely on private donations of quarters, dryer sheets, and small monetary gifts.
